The Archaeological Museum

The area around Mantua, in archaeological terms, is one of the most important in Lombardy. The layout of the future museum is ordered chronologically and topographically, with the history of the whole of the Mantuan territory covered from prehistory to the Middle Ages.

At the end of the itinerary is the section dedicated to the city of Mantua, an exceptional palimpsest which includes traces of most of the historical phases that followed on from one another locally: from the Etruscan city to the Lombard settlers and the Renaissance.
Although the material on display will be changed, at present only temporary exhibitions are on view to the public. At the entrance is a model of how the museum will look in the future.
